A diesel engine with good compression needs the following to start. 1. Cranking speed of about 150 rpm. (I have managed to start with less.) 2. A good air supply. 3. A good fuel supply. As regards the air supply, there are reports of mice or similar getting into the air filter. It would be wise to eliminate problems with the air supply.

Ive replaced the turbo and intercooler (second hand ) gave it a full serice but its still running badly , ive had it plugged in while the turbo and so on was done and got the results in the pic below !!! Its idling really rough which im thinking is tge maf but doesnt make loads of difference unplugging that but it does make a slight difference
Deleted34567. Remove the energising wire from solenoid, power it with +12ve and see if it cranks (make sure it's out of gear).. If not then a starter motor/solenoid fault or earth or main power cable problem. Voltmeter from battery positive and starter motor main feed and again should be less than 1 volt on crank.
17. Feb 25, 2013. #1. Hi. My 2007 ducato 2.2 100 van sometimes makes a whirring noise instead of starting, then next turn it does start. Am i right in suspecting the starter or solenoid and how how difficult is it to change the starter motor in terms of access and location of bolts etc? Many thanks. T.
