Remove the old EGR valve by loosening the bolts and nuts that secure it to the intake manifold using a socket wrench. Keep these fasteners – you might need to reuse them. 2. Remove the Old Gasket. Take off the old gasket using a scraper or knife carefully. Make sure not to damage the intake manifold or the valve.
I bought a scanner and received the code P0402 which states "the EGR valve has excessive exhaust flow." However, in my Haynes manual it does not show where the EGR valve is located on the 5.0L engine. I believe it is located back near the firewall, closer to the passenger side than the driver, but near the middle of the engine.

A solid plate "fixes" a faulty or leaking EGR valve by effectively disabling it a new EGR valve could cost £120+ and who knows what extortionate price Ford will charge you to fit it/ set it up - the plate is aboout £5 (+ the engine will run better with the EGR blanked or disabled ) I recommend a solid, stainless steel plate.
The EGR system is electronically controlled. A proportional electric motor. controlled directly by a duty-cycle signal. from the powertrain control module operates the valve. Integrated into the EGR valve is a valve position sensor. The signal from the EGR valve position sensor. allows for the precise control of the timing.
